The differences between the application of glass ceramics and dental Press Ingot in dental restoration are mainly reflected in the following aspects

1.Indication selection

Glass ceramics:

Aesthetic restoration of anterior teeth (veneers, full crowns)

Single crowns in the posterior area (high-strength models such as E.max Press HT)

Minimally invasive restoration (ultra-thin veneers starting from 0.3mm)

High onlay and inlay restoration

Dental Press Ingot:

Single crowns and veneers for anterior teeth

Repair of non-functional areas

Not recommended for high-stress areas of posterior teeth

2.Tooth preparation requirements

Glass ceramics:

Less preparation (veneers can only be prepared 0.3mm)

Suitable for minimally invasive restoration

The margins can be designed as feather-shaped or shallowly concave

Dental Press Ingot:

More tooth preparation is required (at least 0.5-0.7mm)

A more clear shoulder design is required

Not suitable for ultra-thin restoration

3.Clinical operation characteristics

Glass ceramics:

CAD/CAM restorations are highly accurate

Need to be extra careful when trying them on (fragile)

Strict bonding process (must be etched + silanized)

Dental Press Ingot:

Rely on traditional casting technology

Need to check the marginal fit when trying them on

Relatively simple bonding requirements but still require etching

4.Aesthetic performance

Glass ceramics:

Better light transmittance (closer to natural teeth)

Strong color layering

Can be highly personalized with dyeing

Dental Press Ingot:

Medium light transmittance

More natural color transition but limited personalization

Weak color masking ability

5.Technical sensitivity

Glass ceramics:

High technical requirements for technicians (CAD design, sintering)

Strict requirements for clinical bonding technology

Requires supporting equipment (CAD/CAM or hot die casting machine)

Dental Press Ingot:

Rely on traditional technician technology

High casting experience requirements for technicians
