Dental Bridge is a fixed prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Bridges restore function, improve aesthetics, and prevent teeth from shifting.
Types of Dental Bridges
1. Traditional Bridges
Most common type.
Uses crowns on adjacent teeth (abutments) to hold the pontic.
Suitable when natural teeth are present on both sides of the gap.
2. Cantilever Bridges
Used when only one adjacent tooth is available for support.
Less common due to risk of jaw strain.
3. Maryland Bonded Bridges (Resin-Bonded Bridges)
Uses a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth.
Less invasive but not as strong as traditional bridges.
4. Implant-Supported Bridges
Anchored to dental implants instead of natural teeth.
